Hydrogen from Biomass for Urban Transportation

چکیده

Hydrogen is the most environmentally friendly fuel and can be efficiently used for stationary power and mobile applications. When burned or oxidized, it generates water as the only emission (small amounts of NOx are generated during the combustion process but can be controlled to very low levels). At present, hydrogen is produced almost entirely from fossil fuels such as natural gas, naphtha, and coal. During these hydrogen production processes, large amounts of fossil-derived CO2 are released to the atmosphere. Renewable biomass is an attractive alternative to fossil feedstocks because of essentially zero net CO2 impact [1].

Sustainable fuel for the transportation sector.

A hybrid hydrogen-carbon (H(2)CAR) process for the production of liquid hydrocarbon fuels is proposed wherein biomass is the carbon source and hydrogen is supplied from carbon-free energy. To implement this concept, a process has been designed to co-feed a biomass gasifier with H(2) and CO(2) recycled from the H(2)-CO to liquid conversion reactor. Modeling of this biomass to liquids process has...

Energy Saving in Public Transport Using Renewable Energy

Hydrogen produced by renewable sources represents an interesting way to reduce the energetic dependence on fossil fuels in the transportation sector. This paper shows a feasibility study for the production, storage and distribution of hydrogen in the western Sicilian context, using three different renewable sources: wind, biomass and sea wave. The objective of this study is the evaluation of th...

Simulation and modeling of hydrogen production from glucose biomass model compound via hydro-thermal gasification

Glucose is a 6-carbon carbohydrate compound present in plants and the ingredient for hemicellulose which makes up 30% of plants’ total mass. The current study uses glucose as reactant and evaluates hydrogen generation at different temperatures and different amounts of input flow of glucose – water mixture. Hydrothermal gasification method is used for hydrogen generation in an open system with c...

Biomass for Heat or as Transportation Fuel? a Comparison between Two Model Based Studies

In two different energy economy models of the global energy system, the cost-effective use of biomass under a stringent carbon constraint has been analyzed. Gielen et al. conclude that it is cost-effective to use biofuels for transportation, whereas Azar et al. find that it is more cost-effective to use most of the biomass to generate heat and process heat, despite the fact that assumptions abo...
